Welcome to
Babyfication Month. What is “babyfication” you ask? Babyfication is a phrase
coined in reference to when an established character or franchise is de-aged in
order to add new life and make them appealing to a whole new generation of
fans. It all began with Jim Henson’s
Muppet Babies, which ran for a highly-rated seven seasons. Upon seeing the
success of an established franchise de-aging their characters, other studios
began to follow suit over the next decade with their own. Thus, the
babyfication fad began, and this month we take a look at the programs that were
the result of it.
We start from the
beginning on April 4th with Muppet
Babies and the first copycat series, Flintstone
Kids.
Rounding out the
1980s on April 11th is The New
Archies and A Pup Named Scooby-Doo.
Taking us into the
1990s on April 18th is Tom and
Jerry Kids and Yo Yogi!
And finally, we join
the 21st century on April 25th with the 90s-ending Jungle Cubs and the 2000s-beginning Baby Looney Tunes.
